The year - 2003.
The backdrop. The mayor was preoccupied managing an emerging empire of discount stores, leaving young son to lead the team of village idiots at BZ discount (rip). Young son was / is a diehard red sox fan and the red sox v yankee rivalry was at an all time high. The BZ team, comprised of a group of young red sox fans that were at times juvenile, always customer service orientated and never shy about stocking boogey boards.
The scene. On one of the busiest Saturdays that Hampton Beach has ever seen and at the highest noon this hemisphere has known - the mayor decided to drop by and cause havoc on his young aspiring middle class employees. Not only did he drop off enough boxes to fill a mid-tier mall kiosk, but he demanded that they sell YANKEE hats.
The move. Young son, agitated already by a lackluster college baseball career, could take no more. He said no, I have principles and have his "profiles in courage" moment. I will not sell Yankee hats. The mayor threw his weight and authority around and demanded that he sell yankee hats. the mayor won but it was short lived.
The win. Young son put those hats out for sale. And sell those hats he did - in theory. He would do as told, but he would put those yankee hats out for $99.99 and not a penny less.
